Outreach and Partnerships
To inform the public about The Nation's Report Card and receive valuable feedback, the Governing Board engages in outreach activities with various stakeholders, including policymakers, educators, business leaders, parents, and the general public. It also forms partnerships with other groups invested in quality education to gather additional perspectives to inform the Governing Board's policies and operations.
The Governing Board sees these outreach efforts as fostering important dialogue that helps to maintain the high quality of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), commonly known as The Nation's Report Card.
The Governing Board—CCSSO Policy Task Force
To expand involvement and input from state education leaders, the Governing Board partnered with the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) to create a Policy Task Force. This Board-funded Task Force, comprised of 12 high-level state education agency staff members, is charged with providing state feedback and recommendations to the Board on NAEP policy issues.

The NAEP Business Policy Task Force
The National Assessment Governing Board is developing a new Business Policy Task Force, which will provide input to the Board in shaping policy for NAEP and in expanding outreach to the business community. This task force will be made up of business leaders representing industry sectors across the nation.
Potential tasks include helping to define 12th-grade student preparedness as it relates to postsecondary education and job training; improve methods for communicating NAEP results to the business community; and identify the reading and mathematics skills—used for entry-level jobs and job training programs.
The deadline for nominations has been extended to February 27, 2009. Read a color brochure to see more about this endeavor.
Member and Staff Presentations
Governing Board members and staff make presentations to various groups on issues related to NAEP, with the goal of informing policymakers, educators, business representatives, media, and the general public. View a list of recent and future appearances.
Outreach Events at Board Meetings
Prior to most quarterly meetings, the Board hosts an outreach event targeted to a specific community. In the recent past, these events have included non-public school leaders, state lawmakers, business leaders, and the media. The goal is for Board members and staff to inform attendees about NAEP, discuss upcoming projects, and to receive feedback from guests on a variety of NAEP issues.
